Pakistan: UEPW 99MW Wind Power Project

Following “The Belt and Road” initiative of the national development strategy and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission etc, United Energy Group (UEG) is actively engaged in the development, construction, and operation of clean energy projects. UEG established the 99 MW UEP Wind Power Project in the Jhimpir wind corridor of Pakistan’s Sindh province. It is the single largest wind power plant in Pakistan. The wind plant’s construction started in January 2016. The plant started commercial operations on June 16th, 2017. The wind power project is among the 14 top priority, early harvest projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In November 2014, Li Keqiang, China’s Prime Minister and Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister at the time, witnessed the signing of the EPC framework agreement. In April 2015, Xi Jinping, China’s President and Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister at the time, witnessed the video launch ceremony of the project in Islamabad. On August 13th, 2017, Wang Yang , China’s Vice Prime Minister and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Pakistan’s Prime Minister at the time, inaugurated the project's commercial operations.

Equipment for the wind plant was procured from Chinese companies. Chinese companies are also engaged in the operation and maintenance of the plant. The project was constructed by China Gezhouba Group Co. LTD. China Gezhouba Group International Engineering Co. LTD. operates and maintains the wind plant.

Iraq: Al-Faihaa Oil Field - Block 9, 2.5MWp+2.5MWh Off-grid Solar Power Project

In line with the Government of Iraq’s commitment to developing the clean energy sector and reducing carbon emissions, UEG has invested in a 2.5 MW off-grid solar power station in the Al-Faihaa oil field in Block-9. The project achieved its provisional acceptance on May 24th 2022. It is the largest off-grid solar PV hybrid power project with a battery storage system in Iraq and a key milestone in transforming the country's energy outlook.

The plant consists of 2.5MW solar PV panels, a 2.5MWh battery energy storage system, an 11kV transmission system, an energy management system and auxiliary equipment. As a pilot project, it applies several advanced technologies. The design of the sun-tracking system maximizes the output of the power station. Automatic cleaning robots effectively help the PV panel maintain the best performance. The project is an unmanned facility with a remote monitoring system used for daily operations. The solar power station has reduced diesel oil consumption at our camp in Block-9 by 50%. It could also achieve carbon emissions reduction of 2,900 tons per year, in line with UEG’s emphasis on promoting clean energy.

The inauguration ceremony of the solar project was held at the Block-9 oil field on June 16th, 2022. Mr. Hassan, Executive Vice President of Basra Oil Company; Mr. Najim , Deputy Director of PCLD of Ministry of Oil and Chairman of JMC of Block-9; Mr. Abdu Wahah, Advisor at Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity; and representatives of UEG and CEEC attended the ceremony. Officials from Iraq’s Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Electricity praised the project as a good example of utilizing Iraq's natural resources to alleviate power shortages and reduce environmental pollution.

UEG is expanding its footprint in solar energy. In addition to this 2.5MW solar power plant, the development of a large-scale grid-connected solar power project is in process. UEG is committed to supporting the transition to a low-carbon future and is utilizing its expertise in wind and solar power projects to expand its clean energy business. The Group aims to achieve carbon neutrality through multi-energy sources, including traditional and renewable energy, and develop into a comprehensive energy company.
