As the blades of No. 66 wind turbine were successfully connected to the main body on the 13th of March, all turbines of the JHIMPIR wind power project have been hoisted. This landmark progress marks another milestone the project achieved and a critical step forward towards the goal of site-wide connection to the grid.
Located in Sindh Province, Pakistan, JHIMPIR project is one of the priority projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. With a total installed capacity of 99MW, the project consists of 66 1.5MW wind turbines generator systems, and the first wind turbine was hoisted into place on the second of October 2016.
As the turbines were being hoisted, commissioning of the electrical equipment was also in an essential stage. As the independent engineers from the Pakistani side mobilized one after another, the PM team demonstrated active spirit of teamwork by working extra shifts and hours and responding to/ answering requests / questions raised by Pakistani engineers, and at times they had to work overnight to keep up with the schedule. To make sure that batteries charge/discharge testing went well, testing engineers had to work in shifts around the clock, and some of the key personnel refused to rest even if they were exhausted after working excessive overtime hours.
While the wind turbines were being hoisted and station electrical equipment commissioned, other work activities were also being done: doors/windows were being installed and tiles were being laid at the Admin building and electrical building; road being paved at the site, and half of the concrete casting work had been completed. Post-hoisting commissioning of the wind turbines has also commenced and commissioning of 3 turbines has finished.
Next all PM team members will remain united and continue to work harder on the electrical test inside the 132KV booster station and commissioning of the off-station wind turbines so that the grid system can successfully transmit power to the generator units.
