On the afternoon of April 27, 2024, at 5:58 pm, the valves of the Central Processing Facility (CPF) of UEG Iraq Block-9 were slowly opened, and the torch was successfully lit. The blazing torch burned in the dusk, symbolizing the complete success of the CPF's oil injection ceremony and playing a new era prelude to the production capacity of Block-9. At this historic moment, representatives from Basra Oil Company, United Energy Group (UEG), and China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE) gathered to witness the shining torch like a lighthouse guiding the Block-9 on a new journey.
As one of the most important milestones for the UEG, the smooth operation of CPF marks a new chapter in the efficiency and production capacity of the Block-9. After the operation of the CPF, it will significantly optimize the crude oil processing process, significantly increase production, and help the Block-9 achieve the strategic growth goal of 100000 barrels per day.
After 25 months of hard work, UEG with various contractor units, built a huge and advanced "City of Oil" in the desolate desert of Basrah from scratch together. This miracle was inseparable from the solidarity and mutual support among UEG, CAMCE, Daqing Exploratory Drilling Engineering Company, Daqing Oilfield Construction Group Co., Ltd., CPP, CPE, China Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Co., Ltd., and Anton Oilfield Services Group. Also, it was the perseverance of more than 3000 workers under the countless scorching sun days that ensured the timely completion and smooth production of the CPF project.
In the past 25 months, UEG and contractor teams have gone through trials and overcome difficulties. Faced with challenges such as the global pandemic, the surge in logistics pressure, and the unstable security situation in the Middle East, the project team still maintains a strong fighting spirit and firm belief, demonstrating its strength through practical actions. In the project design and planning stage, the ground engineering team adheres to the spirit of excellence, ensuring the reasonable and efficient layout of facilities, and laying a solid foundation for subsequent production and operation.
During the global procurement phase, the procurement team actively establishes multi regional partnerships, communicates and coordinates in a timely manner to address various challenges and ensure timely and high-quality delivery of equipment and materials. During the construction process, strict control was implemented over safety, progress, and quality through efficient management. After entering the debugging phase, comprehensive and rigorous testing was carried out on various equipment and systems of the central processing plant, ultimately achieving the goal of successfully feeding oil to the plant three days in advance.
UEG Iraq Block-9 has always firmly prioritized safety and quality during the project construction process, with a cumulative safety working hours exceeding 10 million hours. Currently, it is operating steadily, with a daily production of over 75000 barrels, an increase of over 500% compared to 2019. Next, the Block-9 will achieve a new production capacity of 100000 barrels per day, achieving the first phase development goal of the Yamama reservoir. Moreover, the Block-9 will continue to work side by side with its partners, deeply tap into the deep potential of Iraq's asset oil and gas reservoirs, inject a continuous source of power into the sustained and stable development of UEG in the Iraq region, and make unremitting efforts to become a high growth international medium-sized energy company.
